Mobi-kraal design testing underway – watch this space!

Testing Innovative Solutions to Improve Human-Leopard Coexistence in Agricultural Landscapes

The Mobi-kraal design has been in the field since September 2025 and is undergoing some real-world testing

After years of engaging with communities affected by leopard conflict, the Cape Leopard Trust (CLT) recognised the urgent need for a mobile predator-proof kraal (a corral or protective enclosure) that is capable of functioning effectively across diverse landscapes.

In 2024, the Conservation Kraal Challenge called for designs for a “Mobi-kraal” – an affordable, mobile, predator-proof kraal. The winning design was further developed and is currently undergoing testing on four farms across South Africa.

Once testing is complete, a blueprint and supporting resources will be made freely available on this website to provide the livestock farming community worldwide with an affordable, manageable solution to add to their depredation mitigation toolboxes.
